Everything you need to know about Little Light—personalized Christian storybooks created around your child, their story, and the lessons that matter most.
What is Little Light?
Little Light is Scrively’s personalized Christian storybook experience, created to help children connect Bible lessons with the everyday moments they’re experiencing. Each book is created specifically for your child using their name, photo, age, chosen Bible lesson, and selected art style. Rather than starting with a prewritten story and simply adding your child’s name, Little Light creates an original, Bible-inspired adventure around the lesson and situation you choose. You can start with a Bible verse you love or describe something your child is working through such as sharing, worry, forgiveness, courage, or starting school. Little Light can help you find a relevant verse and create a simple explanation of the lesson for you to review.
How to Create Your First Little Light Book
Ready to create your first Little Light book? Create a personalized Christian story centered around your child by adding their photo, choosing a meaningful Bible lesson, and selecting an art style they’ll love. When you’re finished, your Little Light book will be ready to read, enjoy, and share with your family. Click on the "Story Add-ons" tab. Upload or drag a child's photo into the modal. Use the -/+ controls to zoom in or out of the photo. Click and drag the photo to reposition it within the frame. Click on "Save." The uploaded photo will be displayed. Need to change the photo? Just click “Change Photo.” Need to delete the photo? Just click “Delete Photo.” Give the child a name. The child will be identified based on the uploaded image or you can manually change it. Want to select the art style? Click on "Change." Browse through the list of available art styles. ⚠️ The free book includes one style. One-time purchases include one style in each category. The Plus plan includes three styles per category, while the Pro plan unlocks all styles. Hover over the art style to reveal and click on the enlarge tool. Once selected, you’ll see a full-size preview of the art style. When you're ready select the art style and click on "Continue." Click "More options" to reveal additional advanced book settings. Click on the "Bible Version"dropdown. Choose between the BSB (Berean Standard Bible) and WEB (World English Bible). The first option allows you to choose the "Reading Level." Next, select the number of pages for your book. The maximum number of pages available depends on your plan level. Then, select the voice or writing style for the story. Choose the language the story should be written in. Select your spread layout, with two options available: One per page or One per spread. One per page: Displays one image on each page, allowing two images to appear across a spread. This is ideal for showing contrasting scenes, before-and-after moments, or two related perspectives side by side. One per spread: Displays one image across the entire spread, creating a larger, full-focus illustration or scene that spans both pages. ⚠️ Once your book has been designed, the spread layout can no longer be changed. If you return to the "more options", you’ll notice that the Spread layout setting is locked. Next choose your "Book Size." The book sizes that are available are based on your plan level which you can learn more about here. ⚠️ Once your book has been designed, the book size can no longer be changed. If you return to the "Advanced Options", you’ll notice that the book size setting is locked. Choose your text placement. Smart Fit: The story text will no longer be anchored to the bottom of the page. Instead, it will be automatically resized and positioned in the most suitable location for each illustration. Always at the bottom: The story text will remain in the same position on every page. Choose how many sentences should show on each page. Click “Find their lesson” at the bottom. A confirmation will be shown indicating that this book will use one of your plans credits. Click on "Continue" to proceed.
How to Choose a Guiding Bible Verse
Choose a Bible verse that speaks to your child and the lesson you want to share with them. You can pick a verse yourself or let Little Light help you find one that fits your story. You’ll have two options for selecting your verse: “Help me find a verse” or “I have a verse.” Let’s start with “Help me find a verse.” Start by describing what you'd like your child to learn or work through. Need more space? Use the expand/collapse tool in the bottom-right corner of the text field. Alternatively, choose from the provided ideas. When you're ready, click on "Find Bible verses." A list of verses will be displayed on the right side. Want to see more recommended verses? Scroll down and click “Find more verses.” Prefer to use your own verse? Click the “I have a verse” tab to enter it yourself. Enter the Bible reference(s). Click on "Look up verses." Once you’ve selected your verse, you’ll move on to the next step where you can set up your Little Light lesson.
How to Personalize Your Little Light Lesson
Make the lesson meaningful to your child by personalizing it around their age, experiences, and the message you want them to take away. Little Light will use your selections to help shape a lesson that feels relevant to them. In the “Bible Lesson” step, your selected verse will appear on the left-hand side. If you’d like to change the verse, click **“**Choose a different verse.” On the right-hand side, you’ll see the lesson. Make any edits needed to personalize the lesson and make it a good fit for your child. Below the lesson, you’ll find the Bible story connection. A recommended Bible story will be selected for you, or you can choose a different Bible story connection if you prefer. You can also choose to use the selected verse on the cover of your book. Prefer a different verse for the cover? Click on "Type a different verse..." Add the verse reference. Then, add the quotation. Click “Use this cover verse” to add it to the cover. Optional: At the end of the book, you can choose to add discussion questions, a simple activity, a short prayer, and/or a memory verse. When you’re ready, click “Meet their characters.” From this point forward, the remaining steps for creating your Little Light book are the same as the standard Scrively book creation process. Head over to our How to Create Your Characters guide to learn more about adding and working with your characters. At the end of each guide, you’ll find a link to the next step, so you can easily follow along through the rest of the book creation process.
