Once you’ve described your story, Scrively will automatically generate characters based on the details you’ve provided.
Each character includes an image, description, and type, all of which can be edited and customized as needed.
💡 Tip: Your character's appearance (such as skin tone, hair color, clothing, height, and age) is already defined by their profile image. Use the Character Description to explain their personality, role, goals, or unique traits that help drive the story instead.
✅ Good: "A curious young inventor who loves solving puzzles and never gives up."
❌ Avoid: "A tall girl with brown hair, blue eyes, and a red shirt."
Hover over the character to view a larger, full-size preview of their appearance.
If you don't want to use a character click on the X icon to remove the character from the book.
Want to make changes to the character? Click on "Edit character."
In the character edit view, you can enter a new name, select their type, and change their appearance.
⚠️ If the story has already been generated Scrively will automatically update the character's name in the story.
Be sure to click on "Save character" to apply the changes.
⚠️ Each character includes 2 free replacement or regeneration credits. If additional regenerations are needed, you can purchase a Magic brush regeneration pack. Paid accounts can view available packs and pricing, by selecting the "Magic Brush" button located at the top right of the app.
Click "More options" to view additional configuration options for your characters.
Each character will be assigned a story role. Click on the role to make adjustments if needed.
Star of the Story: The star of your story drives the plot and appears most frequently throughout the book.
Story Friend: Important supporting characters who appear regularly and help develop the story and main characters.
Supporting Character: Minor characters who appear briefly to add context, depth, or help move the story forward.
The “Include on the cover” option determines whether a character will be included on the book cover design. If you do not want the character to appear on the cover uncheck that setting.
Want to save the character to your character library for future use? Click on "Save to My Characters."
Need to add more story friends? Scrively offers four options, including "Add from a photo."
Or "Describe someone."
